Home Business - Starting Up In A Recession

Contrary to what you may hear, or even believe yourself, economic downturns are great times to pursue your dream of starting your own home business. Savvy entrepreneurs are always looking for the right time and opportunity to get in the game. They know recessions don’t last forever, and are always followed by long periods of sustained growth. You want to be in a position to provide your products or services when the economy turns and your prospects are in a buying mood.

A great time to build your client base.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities for you now. For most companies out there that you may be marketing to, everything is on the table cost wise. If you can come in with a lower price, or provide more value, your much more likely to pick up that new client now, rather than later when they are not so focused on cost or value.

Lower startup costs.

There are deals and discounts everywhere you look. It’s as inexpensive as ever to get your next home based business of the ground. Need a website? How does under five dollars a month sound for your own .com? Want to blog? The two most popular blogging sites, Blogger and WordPress will give you one for free. Do a web search for “Blogger vs WordPress” for some comparisons of the two. Don’t forget about offline promotions either. The big online printing services offer business cards and postcards for pennies, and the quality is quite good. There are many out there each with their own unique promotions.

Don’t go it alone. Outsource on the cheap.

There is a lot of high quality talent available for hire right now on the freelancer sites. People are desperate for work, and are more willing to negotiate their fees. Common outsourcing functions for the startup include website design and marketing, SEO services, article writers (for your blog and article sites) and virtual assistants.

Top Ten Benefits of A Home Based Business

There has been an increased trend in the home based business lately because of the unstable and uncertain financial times we are in. The recession has brought out the best – and worst – in everyone. Entrepreneurs see this as another opportunity, not a roadblock to success. People who are smart see the gloomy economic climate as an omen that there are better things ahead, the rainbow after the rain so to speak.

But what are the reasons that entrepreneurs still have the courage to put money and start up a home based business?

The advantages often outweigh the odds that entrepreneurs are more than willing to put their money at stake knowing full well that the investment they put in are going to reap rewards. But to lay it all out there BusinessWeek has an article which present the top ten benefits of a home based business and the reasons you should try to consider starting your very own business opportunity from home!

1. Personal freedom – You have control over your time, but this also calls for your time management skills. You can dress in pajamas and work. You don’t have a boss and colleagues to please. One more thing, you don’t have to wake up early in the morning, rush through breakfast to catch the 7:10 bus or squeeze yourself into the rush hour crowd in the subway.

2. You get to keep the money you make – Come on, it’s the best thing about finding a home based business opportunity! However, remember to work smart, no hard because if you work hard but not smart, you’ll just going to end up wearing yourself out without making much money.

3. Increased opportunity – Big time corporations are filing for bankruptcy and this is a unique opportunity for small business owners (and that includes you!) to create money-making opportunities!

4. Less risk – Getting a home business up and running is a relatively low cost business venture and the overall cost of managing your home based business is much less than having to rent a space somewhere or purchasing a franchise.

5. Less stress – Since you’re working at home, you’re now in a better position to balance work and family because you manage your own time and more hands-on with family matters…no more running around trying to meet deadlines and attend your son’s first baseball game.

6. Tax advantages – The Small Business Administration helps small home business owners and there are ways which you can take advantage. One way to do that is to take away from your home expenses, for example the mortgage or utilities, the amount you spend on your business as business operating cost.

7. More time for friends and family – You can have more time to spend with your family, taking a more active role in the live of your kids, especially if there are still very young. However, being around your family can also have its downside on your business; make sure you can balance these two aspects of your life.

8. Opportunities for professional growth – When you’re on your own, running your home business, you have to function as the CEO, the finance officer, the marketing and sales expert, and other essential business roles which gives you the potential to grow.

9. Increased productivity – A cut down on the time and energy you spend going to work and coming back home can now be spent on business matters therefore increasing your daily output.

10. A creative outlet – If you’re home based business is your hobby-turned-money making enterprise then you have a channel to showcase these unique talents and skills.

These are really great reasons to start a home business, don’t you agree?

But remember to really think things over before setting up your own home based business. If you’re not quite sure about the whole thing then don’t rush into anything. A home based business is still an investment so be wise.

The rewards are indeed more than gratifying but only if you’re serious about making money – careful to create a balance between work and family, and have self-motivation and commitment to achieve success.

So You Think You Have No Time For A Home Business?

It’s true that most people are very busy, but extra time for some sort of project such as a home business can almost always be found. It may be that you have to give up a few of your favorite things, such as having a couple of beers with the guys after work, or watching three or four hours of TV. But if you succeed with your project, you will have the time and the money for whatever you want to do.

Efficient time management means planning what you are going to do and then making up your mind to do it. Here are a few tips:

1. Make a list of what you want to accomplish tomorrow before you go to bed tonight.

2. Schedule your trips to the store or wherever you need to go to coincide the other things you need to do, and with your trips to and from work. Organize your trips to take care of as many errands as possible while you are out of the house.

3. Pay attention to the amount of time you spend on the telephone and eliminate or shorten the length of time spent on calls that aren’t really necessary. This applies to that ever-growing email list as well. Do you really need to be on every mailing list on the planet?

4. Take care of all the mail as you receive it. Don’t let those bills and letters pile up on you. Answer your letters the same day you get them. The same goes for bills. If you can, pay them as they come in. If you can’t, make yourself a file in an easily accessible place and mark your calendar.

Once you really start to get going in your home business, you should work it exactly as you have organized your regular day-to-day activities on a time basis. Do what has to be done immediately. Don’t plan to get something done in a hour that’s actually going to take all day. Plan out on paper what you need to do-what you want to do-and when you are going to do it. Then get right on the projects without procrastinating.

Taking stock of the time you waste each day and reorganizing your activities-that’s what it’s all about. It’s a matter of making more efficient use of your time. This is really not that hard to do and you will not only accomplish a lot more, you will be a much happier person.

The secret of all successful people is simply that they are organized and do not waste a lot of time. Think about it. Look at your own activities, and then see if you can’t find a couple of extra hours in each day to be more constructive.

Finally, and above all else, when you are organizing your time and your business, be sure to set aside some time for relaxation. Make sure you schedule time to devote to your family and friends. You must not involve yourself in your home business to the extent that you exclude people-particularly your loved ones, from your life.

As far as what kind of home business to get into you are going to have to make that decision for yourself. Please try not to base it on inaccurate information-you probably won’t care for the consequences. Make sure you get the whole home business story from well-informed sources.

Now you can be a confident expert on home business. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something of value to bring to the table next time you join a discussion about having a home business.

Home Based Marketing Business

Tired of having to work eight hours a day but making only such a meager salary that you can almost say, “I’ve had enough! I’m going to start my own home based marketing business!”?

The recent financial situation has been a big blow – not only to big corporations or to the government but as a matter of fact, the average person also feels the damage of recession, if not more so. Homes are foreclosed. Many are laid off their jobs and still others are in the perilous balance of losing their bread and honey as well.

One way to alleviate the effects of the recession in your life is to make more money. But how do you do that?

Here’s one solution that can make you make ends meet and pay the bills. You start your work at home career. That sounds such a challenge…and it is!

However, first thing to consider is –are you really ready for this? Maybe you’re just thinking of a part-time job, not really that eager to leave your full time job…or maybe you’re apprehensive about giving up your regular job and venture into unknown business territories. You must first realize what you really want and if you really are ready for this change in your life.

Once you have made the emotional preparations for this shift, you are then confronted by the decision of which home based marketing business you are to take on. There are so many home business ideas and opportunities that you can choose from.

If you have a hobby, say landscaping or photography, you can turn that passion into something profitable. You can set up a part-time landscaping or photography service. However, again, it may sound all so easy. You have to build a clientele if you want your work at home career to flourish. Of course, you have to offer quality service to keep your clients as well as encourage them to recommend you to people they know who are looking for the same service.

If you think you have no particular skill you can turn into a professional service, then the internet can offer you a lot of opportunities you can learn and master. Here’s a word of caution though: the internet is overwhelming with money making opportunities but there are as much legitimate businesses as there as scams. So always look out for funny sounding deals, do your research, and ask around people who have been there and done that.

A home based marketing business can do wonders for your finances but only if you know you are in it for the long haul, do your due diligence, and take on the challenges of setting up and running your home business with a positive mindset.

Work At Home Agent: Making Your Own Home Office

The Internet has redefined the world of travel. Before the advent of the Information Age, travel was a product offered almost exclusively by travel agencies who were geared towards airlines. But due to changes that were brought in part by the increasing popularity of the Internet and the overall changing attitudes of travel agents in general, travel agencies are beginning to adapt their policies.

Since the eruption of the work at home craze, many people have eschewed the life that in-house offices offer. They want flexibility and more hours for themselves to spend with family and loved ones. For this reason, they are beginning to find ways to earn money by working from the home.

The work at home industry is one that encompasses almost all fields of work. This includes writing, data entry, clerical jobs, small businesses, and even work as a travel agent. For this article, we shall focus on the work at home job of a travel agent and some tips on how to be successful at it.

Work at Home Agent: The Best Way to Set Up Your Home Office

When it comes to your work at home office as a travel agent, the best way to set it up is to not set it up right away. This perhaps is the best thing about work at home opportunities for travel agents. You can start working right away even though you don’t have anything that even remotely resembles an “office.” In fact, you don’t even need an office. All you need is a phone and a place to keep supplies. You could very well set up your “office” in the dining room and your clients would never know the difference.

The purpose of this work at home agent tip is to let you focus more on the business of making business than on little what-nots, such as the look and feel of your home office.

Work at Home Agent: Understanding Features, Functions, and Benefits

One of the keys to success in work at home agent jobs is understanding the difference among features, functions, and benefits and how they are related to the needs of your prospect. But first off, let’s define a few things.

The needs stands for something which your customer or prospect has expressed a desire for.

The feature is any aspect or element or part of the product that you are offering. In the case of work at home agent products, features include “oceanfront room”, a “tour guide” on the motorcoach, an “optional excursion to the archaeological ruins”, “First Class” on the airline, and many more.

The function is the property of the feature. In other words, it is what the feature does.

Benefits are the positive outcomes or result that the prospect or customer will enjoy from the feature. Note that it is different from the function which deals mostly with what the feature offers regardless of its overall impact on the customer’s experience.

Once you understand the real meanings of these four important ingredients of any work at home agent opportunity and take them into heart, you will then be able to tackle the challenges offered in this field.
